Games and Game Reviews

  • Welcome to the Age of Gaming

Hello Gaming world! one of the biggest industries in this day and age is games. Game studios are popping up here and there they produce a game and if the game is big they’re a hit and almost guaranteed to produce another. companies like Bioware, Bungie, Activision, infinity ward and a handful of others all have great games under their belt. these companies have had splittings between them here and there and the companies that came out of them have had their trial periods as well. take a company called obsidian entertainment for example. this company was created by a handful of employees from Bioware.in the beggining of this companies history they created one game that will forever stick out in peoples mind as a failing sequel Knights of the old republic II: the sith lords. For those of you who are unaware one of Bioware’s big hits was a game called Knights of the old republic (kotor for short) with this game people learned who Bioware was and they enjoyed the world Bioware created, the adventure, the plot, the characters, everything. People were not bored with the game. then a handful of employees decided to make a sequel and that’s where Obsidian Entertainment was born.

Obsidian took the original KOTOR and modified it a little bit they created a game that had loose ends (especially the ending) also they modified some of the original planets to fit in with the new plot line they failed to think out. this game felt like you were playing an unfinished product. some of the useable items you found in totally random places and they could be anything. for example there was an item for those ranged characters you had in your party called the Onasi blaster. now this gun was supposed to be specific to one family and it was supposed to have their family crest on it (or so it said in the item description) yet while playing the game I found this same item 5 times on 3 planets. you tell me how this is possible for a “special weapon” to be found so easily. so as you can see this game had a lot of things it needed fixed with it. after KOTOR II the only original game the company has produced is Alpha Protocol which on a scale from 1 to 10 this critic would give that game maybe a 6.5 it just fell short unfortunately.

In short Obsidian has continued to produce mediocre sequels and barely decent Original games. where as Bioware the producers of  the original KOTOR have had great successes such as Dragon age: Origins, Dragon Age II, even the addons for the games seem to have a lot of thought and  dedication put into them. so to wrap up this rant to which I can add more to later. I’d like to say that this industry will always be advancing looking to enhance gamer’s experiences through games. there will always be companies splitting to produce games that will put their future on a razor’s edge. every premier game from a new company will ultimately make or break a company. So let’s keep looking for that perfect game for all kinds of gamers out there.

    Good Luck.

    Pete
